Workshop on Blockchain and its Applications

(18th & 19th August 2018)
Jointly organized by

C3I Center, IIT Kanpur & NSC Lab, IIIT Allahabad

Venue: Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (As a part of celebration of IIIT-A beyond 20 by 2020)

Welcome to Workshop on Blockchain and its Applications!!!

About the Workshop
  • Blockchain is an emerging platform for developing decentralized applications and data storage, over and beyond its role as a platform for cryptocurrencies. The basic tenet of this platform is that it allows one to create a distributed and replicated ledger of events, transactions, and data generated through various IT processes with strong cryptographic guarantees of tamper resistance, immutability, and verifiability. Public blockchain platforms allow us to guarantee these properties with overwhelming probabilities even when untrusted users are participants of distributed applications. Even though, blockchain technology has become popularly known because of its use in the implementation of Cryptocurrencies such as BitCoin, Ethereum, etc., the blockchain platform holds much more promise in various areas such as time stamping, logging of important events in a system, recording transactions, e-governance etc. Many researchers are working on many such use cases such as Key Distribution, registry maintenance, health record management, decentralized authentication, decentralized DNS, etc. Also, corporations such as IBM and Microsoft are developing their own applications in diverse fields such as the Internet of Things (IoT). This workshop invites students, academicians and industry researchers to share innovative research work, projects, and their knowledge base in this burgeoning field of technology.

Objectives of the Workshop

  • To disseminate of the knowledge of blockchain technology among students, researchers and academicians. The overarching goal is to create awareness and interest in this technology among students, and researchers. Trained manpower in this field is a growing necessity for the country.

  • To discuss the current status of the blockchain development and research work in India and across the world.

  • To bring together researchers to presents their 'work in progress' on blockchain and receive expert comments on such work in progress.

About C3i Center, IIT Kanpur

  • SERB/DST funded the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Cyber Security and Cyber Defence of Critical Infrastructures” at IIT Kanpur to create India’s first research centre whose mission is to do research, education, training, and to spawn start ups to create technological safe guards to protect critical infrastructure. The centre is building-India’s first cyber security test bed for critical infrastructure similar to what is available at Idaho national labs, Sandia National Labs and NIST in the US. The centre is also engaged with international partners from Israel, and USA in developing research and technology exchange, student training, as well as hosting conferences, workshops, and cyber security competitions to create awareness. For more information visit the C3i center site.

About NSC Lab, IIIT Allahabad

  • Network Security & Cryptography (NSC) Lab under Department of Information Technology, IIIT- Allahabad is established with the motive of developing various techniques and algorithms to protect the network infrastructure against various attacks. Various research areas in the field of Network Security and Cryptography is identified and research is initiated to fulfill the security requirements. NSC lab is started to provide necessary infrastructure to the students of IIIT-Allahabad to carry out their research in the field of security and cryptography. For more information visit the NSC Lab site.
